My 30 Year Journey of Service to Others

Scott’s personal ethos of “service to others” is best exemplified by his thirty-plus-year professional career that started following his short tenure as a financial analyst in IBM’s headquarters division.

Scott quickly transitioned to the nonprofit world when he became a divisional finance officer for the School District of Philadelphia. After serving the children of Philadelphia for ten years, Scott returned home to New York to be with his terminally ill father and continued his nonprofit work by consulting with a variety of organizations.

Scott next accepted a full-time position with the Mohonk Preserve (a 501c3) in Gardiner, New York, as their first Director of Finance and Administration.

After a thirteen-year run at Mohonk, Scott resumed his consulting work before accepting a position with British American Business (a 501c6) in mid-town Manhattan, as their first Director of Operations.

After three years, Scott was recruited to become the first Vice President of Accounting and Nonprofit Services at Sum Innovation, an accounting firm in lower Manhattan, where he remained shortly before SUM Innovation closed its doors for business.

Since then, Scott has continued his consulting work and authored three books, the latest of which is entitled, “The Book on Nonprofits/ Lessons Learned on My 30-Year Journey of Service to Others.”

Scott’s commitment to serving others is also evident in his personal life as demonstrated by his decades-long volunteer work with the Boy Scouts of America, Special Olympics of New York, and his local church.
